Templers BESS ranked first in South Australia for revenue per MW for four consecutive weeks

nternational smart energy company HD Renewable Energy Co., Ltd. (TWSE: 6873, “HDRE”) has marked another milestone in its Australian expansion, with its ZEBRE platform continuing to advance long-duration energy storage and capacity market opportunities.

ZEBRE’s Dartmoor battery energy storage project in South Australia has been awarded under the first tender round of the South Australian Government’s Firm Energy Reliability Mechanism (FERM), with part of the project’s capacity to be reserved under the FERMA to provide 8-hour long-duration firming support. The award reflects HDRE’s progress in overseas project development, asset integration and long-term revenue structuring, while supporting the company’s participation in Australia’s evolving capacity market.

The Dartmoor project is a key long-duration storage asset in ZEBRE’s South Australian portfolio. The project is expected to reach ready-to-build status in 2028, with a planned capacity of 144MW / 576MWh. Through the South Australian Government’s long-term contract framework, the FERM award is expected to support greater revenue certainty, asset value and financing visibility.

FERM is designed to procure long-duration firm capacity to support the security and reliability of South Australia’s electricity system as the state continues its transition towards a high-renewables grid. Awarded projects are required to provide at least eight continuous hours of reliable support during periods of tight supply-demand balance and elevated system stress. As coal-fired generation continues to retire and renewable energy penetration increases across Australia, demand is growing for long-duration storage that can support the grid during evening periods or periods of low renewable output.

In addition to Dartmoor, ZEBRE has established a portfolio spanning development, capacity tenders and operational assets. The operational Templers large-scale BESS in South Australia ranked first in the South Australian battery market for revenue per MW for four consecutive weeks in January this year. The project has also secured a 20-year tolling agreement and supplies electricity to the South Australian Government through a long-term power purchase agreement under AGERA, establishing an operating model that combines long-term contracted revenue with market-based returns.

On the development front, ZEBRE’s greenfield projects are expected to complete all development application submissions in the second quarter of 2026, with development approvals expected for a total of 605MW of storage capacity. The platform is also introducing investment-grade tolling arrangements, with projects expected to commence construction progressively from 2027, further expanding its Australian storage portfolio.

Australia is one of the world’s leading markets in renewable energy penetration and power market liberalisation, where storage assets are increasingly recognised as energy infrastructure that can provide both grid support and long-term value through market mechanisms. HDRE’s Australian strategy this year will focus on securing long-term agreements under capacity market mechanisms such as the CIS and FERM, building more stable revenue streams, improving capital efficiency and supporting capital recycling.

HDRE is also actively building a local power trading team. Through its smart dispatch system, the company will optimise revenue allocation across market opportunities, further strengthening the operating structure of its Australian storage assets and its long-term international growth capabilities.
