Grow a Tree for Every Goal

HDRE partnered with Green Hope Spring Ltd., Inc. to launch the “Grow a Tree for Every Goal” program, bringing together two forms of growth: young athletes and the land they call home.
In this initiative, every time a student from an elementary school soccer team scores in an official match, a tree is planted for that student’s school. Each tree becomes a living witness to the players’ hard work, pride, and milestones—growing right alongside them.
The program planted 96 native trees across five schools (25 Cinnamomum kanehirae, 48 Diospyros discolor, and 23 Calocedrus formosana), donated 168 practice soccer balls, and invested NT$144,000 to support both local sports development and ecological restoration in a direct, meaningful way.
Originally planned for only two schools, the initiative was expanded to all of Hualien County after the 0403 earthquake and subsequent typhoon damage left many campuses in need of reforestation. Native trees with high ecological and economic value were chosen to rebuild green cover. Fallen leaves and branches are repurposed into cultural and creative goods by local residents—creating secondary employment and income opportunities.
To ensure the project’s sustainability, 30% of revenue is returned to the schools to support their soccer programs.
This initiative goes beyond reforestation and sports. It embodies HDRE’s spirit of “sharing”—connecting people, resources, and hope to help communities build a resilient and sustainable future.
